Who is a Dependent Adult?
A Dependent Adult is an individual over the age of 18 who is consistently unable to take care and cannot make reasonable decisions for herself or himself.
The Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act allows the Court of Queen’s Bench to appoint a person as the Guardian of an adult who is mentally incapacitated. A guardian is usually a relative or close friend of the Dependent Adult. In some circumstances a Public Guardian from the Provincial Government is appointed when there are no close friends or family.
